The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring
Awesome. All the bits of the film that should have been in there in the first place, a must for collectors and Tolkein fans everywhere. Gorgous packaging, sumptuous quality. Both editions are great value for money. If you’re like me, you’ll probably end up owning both.
While you can’t help but be impressed by the computer-aided stunts and FX, the fact remains that this sequel isn’t fit to clean the original movie’s boots. A major disappointment.
Visually stunning, but in every other way completely and utterly boring. I found myself rooting for the robots, if only for the sake of a swifter ending.
A Cartesian exploration of the relationship between man, machine and god. A vast epic in which three world collide. This seamless merger of thought and action which has made the ambitious Matrix trilogy so successful is continued in 'The Matrix Revolutions' - and while it inevitably suffers from following two films that have set an impossibly high benchmark, 'Revolutions' is an effective ending to the cycle. Apart from including Zion's last stand against the machines, and Neo's final battle with Smith, it is full of reflections on endings, and itself ends, appropriately enough, with a new beginning. I think I hear the pitter patter of three new Matrix films...
Perhaps not as great as it first seemed, but still a cracker.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Quite possibly the best movie ever made.
Just because you can see its message from a mile away, don't think this is some simple revenge/anti-government movie; a fully realized, thought-provoking viewing experience.
Not a bad horror remake but with maximum werewolf screen-time it's all looks a little ridiculous.
Captain America: The First Avenger
This fairly uninteresting and unoriginal superhero is saved somewhat by a few decent characters and acting turns.
